Russull Hannon Jeans

Russell loved life. From his youth, he could be found living it up on Cabrillo Beach in Southern California. Whether it was enjoying playing in the surf, or enjoying a burger with thousands island dressing from the Bath House, he was a beach lover. His love for the beach moved out towards the open water and the Channel Islands as he got involved with sailing. The stories he had of working on his boat and sailing around the Channel Island were amazing. He even sailed from the west coast to the east coast for boat deliveries. Prior to getting married, he lived on his sailboat. Living the dream on the water. In 1972, while studying southwestern studies at Fort Lewis College, Russell went on a foreign exchange student program to Oaxaca, MX. There, he lived with the Carballido family who would host exchange students regularly. He returned to Oaxaca in 1990. There, he would begin dating Maria Sofia and they would end up marrying in November of 1992. In June of 1996 they had their son; David. They live and raise their child in San Pedro, CA. Russell works for the Los Angeles County Sanitation District as a plant operator at the Carson Wastewater Treatment Plant. He retired from the district after 33 years of service. He was heavily involved in Toastmaster. For over 40 years, Russell was participating in meetings, speeches, and debates for his local Toastmaster Club #280. Russell even held officer rolls of the club. Russell had an interest in trains due to his father, Lowell Jeans, and his son David. Russell and his son would go to the Fullerton Train Station to watch and photograph trains. They would end up getting heavily involved in the hobby and travel the United States to photograph trains. In 2015, Russell retired to Valentine, AZ. During this time, the fascination he had from watching Gene Autry movies and other cowboy westerns came out, and he began living the dream of being a cowboy in the American Southwest. He would walk his dogs, Bety and Snowflake, with his cowboy hat and his 38 revolver loaded with snake shot on his hip. Livin’ the cowboy life. With all of the excitement in Valentine, he still found time to read one of his 1,300 books. His book collection consisted of all non-fiction. Economic, history, politics, and philosophy were the main topics he would read about. He shared the knowledge he gained from these books with the world. Whether it was in simple conversation, or in speech debates with his multiple Toastmaster Clubs, he wanted to share his knowledge with you. While living in Valentine, he became a teacher's assistant at Valentine Elementary School. There, he helped students with their reading and testing skills. Russell was the person who wanted to share knowledge with you, as well as help you however he could. Russell was your friend. Even if you had just met him, he wanted to be your friend.
