Nathan Joseph Marler

Nathan Joseph Marler (1938–2024) Nathan was born in Lewiston, Utah in 1938 to Virgil Albert and Alice Perkins. He was raised on the family farm alongside his 2 brothers, Jene and Lyman. Nate was known by many names over the course of his life: Nathan, Nate, Nate the Nut, Tumbleweed. He attended high school at North Cache High in Richmond Utah where he was a member of the marching band. He graduated in 1956. He then joined the Army and was honorably discharged. Nate and his first wife Marilyn Packer were married in 1957. They had 2 daughters, Alice Jillynn and Natalie Ora. They divorced in 1965. He later met and married Frankie Morley in 1967. They had 2 children, Christina and Steven Joseph. He became a stepfather to Dale, Cheryl, Sharon, and David Douglas when he married Frankie. They divorced in 1986. Nate met the love of his life, Shirley, and they were married on December 19, 1987. He became a stepfather to Melissa Brinkman. Nate was known to be adventurous and spontaneous and would hop in his car to travel with little or no notice. He never met a stranger and had many interests throughout his life. He was an avid race car driver in his younger years and once he retired, he joined a wild west reenactment troupe. He was known as Tumbleweed and his sweetheart joined him as Calico. They spent their golden years entertaining tourists in Nevada and Arizona. Nate worked many jobs over the years: farmer, car salesman, long haul trucker, motel manager, forest service park ranger. There wasn’t a job that he couldn't or wouldn’t do. Nate will always be remembered for his sense of humor and the way he teased everyone. We’ll always imagine hearing him say "happy hangover” one more time. We couldn’t have asked for a better husband and father and will miss Nate every day. His memory will live on in the hearts of all those who loved him. Nate was preceded in death by his parents Virgil and Alice Marler, his brother Jene Marler and his great grandson Trent Brinkman. He is survived by his loving wife of 37 years, Shirley. He is also survived by his brother Lyman Marler and his children, Jillynn (Jene) Prudent, Natalie (Jerry) Wheeler, Melissa (Dean) Brinkman, Dale Douglas, Cheryl Douglas, Sharon (Kim) Ropelato, Dave Douglas, Christina (Jerry) Merritt, Steven (Cheri) Marler. He has numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren. He treasured his time with them and loved telling them stories. His graveside service will be Wednesday, January 31 at 11:00 a.m. at Chloride Cemetery. Arrangements are being handled by Sutton Funeral Home.
