Judith McAuliffe

Judith McAuliffe September 23, 1936 to May 23, 2024. A few of the words to describe Judy would be Daughter, Wife, Mother, Grandmother, Great Grandmother, and Child of God. But she was so much more than that: Airman First Class (USAF), RN (working in Oncology and then in a National Veterans’ Center), true Care Giver to friends and family, staunch Republican and Trump Supporter, Constitutionalist, devout Christian. Her days here came to an end after a years’ long battle with COPD; but Judy was able to peacefully transfer to her home in God’s heaven by breathing her last here on earth at home. Her wit and charm and fairness to others will remain her true legacy, while her four children will be living testimonies to her inner strength, perseverance, and good will which she passed on to them. She taught her sons to be strong and be providers of their families while teaching her girls to be independent and the true backbone of the family structure. Carrying on a tradition of nursing from her mother to her daughter, she lived her life full of compassion and love, tolerance and understanding, and giving and receiving gracefully. She was thankful to the end, saying how she was “so grateful and blessed” even as she struggled for breath. Judy was, and will remain, in our minds and hearts a beautiful, humble, sweet and precious person. When relaxing, Judy loved to go camping – from tents and open fires to the “luxury” of a 17 foot Jayco, watching old Western movies, playing guitar and eventually singing with a jam session, and discussing and following politics. Judy was preceded in death by her father and mother (John Carlson and Frances Fox), sister and brother-in-law (Pat and Jackie Raney), first husband Tom and by her grandchildren Ryan Burger and Kelsey Brown. She is survived by her husband Stanley Hicks of Kingman, AZ, her children: Kathy (and Jason) Brown of Peoria, AZ, Patricia McAuliffe of El Cajon, CA., Tom (and Theresa) McAuliffe of Tampa, FL, and John (and Sharon) McAuliffe of Sydney, NSW, AU. Also surviving are grandchildren Gavin Brown, Taylor McAuliffe, Alexa McAuliffe, Elizabeth Burfitt, Jared McAuliffe, and two great grand-children, Sophia and Hamus Burfitt. Judy will be sorely missed and forever loved by all who knew her. Her many friends here, in Illinois and in Australia are better for having known her and saddened by her leaving. But we also all rejoice in her being with her heavenly Father once again, surrounded by her many furry friends and those who went before.
